Farm Bill Brings CBD-rich Natural Medicine

First U.S. President, Hemp Farmer

George Washington, our first President and a hemp farmer, once said, “make the most of the Indian hemp seed and sow it everywhere.” Hemp is a non-psychoactive plant that has been used for many products, including hemp paper which the Constitution was written on. Why use hemp? Hemp is stronger, lasts longer and will not kill forests in the name of disposable products.

Hemp vs. Marijuana

People commonly mistake Hemp for Marijuana. Let me set the record straight, Hemp is the male species of the cannabis plant. It is best described in an answer that I found at the following website: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061123061618AAf5EGH.

An answer was posted stating:

“Hemp is cannabis grown specifically for industrial use and thus contains very low levels of cannabinoids (THC). The use of hemp dates back many thousands of years. Properly grown hemp has virtually no psychoactive (intoxicating) effects when consumed. With a relatively short growth cycle of 120 days, hemp is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow.
The THC levels in industrial hemp are so low that no one could get high from smoking it. Moreover, hemp contains a relatively high percentage of another cannabinoid, CBD, that actually blocks the marijuana high. Hemp, it turns out, is not only not marijuana; it could be called “antimarijuana.” “

How Is CBD-Rich Hemp Medicine?

In 1997, California passed Proposition 215, The Compassionate Care Act, wherein it became the first State to recognize marijuana for it’s medicinal properties. Since 1997, research across the world has been conducted on the medical benefits and possible side effects of the cannabis plant. What they found is beyond what anyone could have imagined. Project CBD, a panel of Doctor’s who have devoted their studies to finding the possible benefits and side effects of marijuana in several terminal and chronic disorders stated the following and is found on their website (http://www.projectcbd.org/about/introducing-cbd/):

Scientific and clinical studies underscore CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. CBD has demonstrated neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and elsewhere.

As stated in the prior paragraphs, Hemp is rich in CBD. The Hemp plant does not have the psychoactive properties of the female cannabis plant, commonly referred to as marijuana. In fact, on February 27, 2014, President Barrack Obama signed a farm bill that will allow certain States to grow Hemp, under the direction of the U.S. government. This is a major step in taking the necessary steps to correct the ignorance of the past and possibly reclassify cannabis, thereby allowing it to be researched for its medicinal properties.
