2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog. Thank you for continuing to read and comment despite my lack of posts. I will begin writing again immediately and look forward to your continued support,

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,400 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 23 trips to carry that many people.

Holistic Cure for the Flu

by Dave Christensen

Chills, Fever, Congestion, Body Aches?

For over fifteen years, whenever I’ve had the flu, I’m talking about the point of being contagious and shivering with  fever, I have used this juicing recipe to cure it. Rather than paying $90-$150 to see a doctor and obtain a prescription of antibiotics, I have used my juicer, a couple cloves of garlic, and carrots to cure the flu.( Maybe $5.00)

Cold vs. Flu
Cold vs. Flu

Warning: If you are allergic to garlic, or carrots, please disregard this remedy for your health sake.

To start this remedy you need a juicer that can turn a carrot into juice as fast as you can feed it. This is the only major purchase you may need. I recommend a Waring commercial juice extractor often available at Smart n’ Final. If you have a juicer of that capacity, you can start saving money now. Here’s my recipe:

  • Run a couple cloves of garlic (2-3) through the juicer along with an ounce of water (shot glass) and catch that juice and set it aside.
  • Immediately juice 6-8 carrots into a large glass and set it aside.
  • In this phase, keep in mind these words, “DO NOT SWALLOW”
  • Take the ounce of garlic juice; gargle it for 15-30 seconds then spit it out.
  • Take the carrot juice; drink it. Yes you may swallow.
  • Brush your teeth.

You will feel an immediate burning sensation because what is happening is the garlic is killing the infection in your throat. The benefits of garlic’s “Anti-microbial effect” efficiently combats bacterial viruses for immediate relief of congestion in the ears, nose, and throat. Most likely you won’t make it to 30 seconds the first time you gargle, but do all you can to make it to 15 seconds. You will live. After you spew it out, chase it with the carrot juice, then brush your teeth.

Drinking the carrot juice doubles the infection fighting vitamins and minerals the body needs to battle infection.

How the Flu Works
How the Flu Works

The garlic meshed with carrot juice is ingested into your body, fortifying the vitamins, and absorbing throughout the bloodstream the “antimicrobial “ effects that purify your blood; if used regularly will detoxify your liver. WebMD has some interesting facts on garlic you might enjoy, follow the above link for more information.

I Do What?!

Of course you’re thinking; “Wait a minute, gargle with garlic?” Remember, you are contagious and shivering with fever. You need to be quarantined anyway. Spend the rest of the day in bed. Your body now has relief and at this point you will regain the sleep you had lost. This is why I recommend you wait til this point to use this remedy. After you’ve brushed your teeth, there is a very pleasant sweet taste in your mouth. You  also have experienced an immediate relief of congestion in the ears, nose and throat. No other flu remedies needed. The longest any flu virus has stayed in my body is 36 hours. If I’m not at least 80% by then, I give it another dose. I’ve never had the flu last more than four days.

Nutrients of Carrots

Carrots and garlic have tremendous holistic healing attributes. Juicing just a few carrots per day alone will do wonders for your health. Juicing carrots provides vitamins A,C,D, E, K, B and B6 to your body and will regulate your blood sugar.  Carrots are also rich in Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, organic sodium and other minerals. Juicing-For-Health.com listed twenty health benefits of juicing carrots.  Among the list, the most outstanding to me is the benefits of blood building.  Juicing carrots builds hemoglobin and lowers serum cholesterol levels, reduces the risks of heart disease and strokes by cleansing the arteries of any plaque deposits. Juicing carrots also helps boost your immune system by increasing the “production and performance of white-blood cells.”

Nutrients of Garlic

Garlic contains rich amounts of Vitamin A, B-complex and C, contains the minerals Manganese, Phosphorus, Calcium, Copper, Potassium and Iron, Amino acids, essential oils, and glycosides.

Twelve types of antioxidants in garlic provide numerous healing attributes. Garlic is also known as a blood detoxifier, and to be effective in normalizing blood pressure.

There are numerous benefits to holistic remedies rather than going to the doctor.

No matter if it’s you or your health insurance that pays the bottom line; next time you have the flu, keep in mind these suggestions. Try this remedy first, and if you don’t feel better in 24 hours, go to your Physician. My experience is that it has worked for over 15 years and has saved hundreds in doctor visits and prescribed antibiotics. I never lost a friend either.

Below are some other juicing recipes that will give you health and nutrition. Enjoy!

What Good Is A Liver Anyway?

My Experience With Livers

I live in a city that I have heard referred to as “second chance town” or a “town in recovery.” Part of my story is having to detox from all the pharmaceuticals I was handed and took for years when diagnosed with MS 2006. In 2005, I had gallbladder surgery, where they had to remove 2/3 of my liver due to infection. By 2011, I was near death just from all the side effects caused by the pharmaceuticals I was given to “live.” Now, three years later, I have been restored; my liver is fully restored. I believe it was a combination of several things, but it all comes down to balance; body, mind, spirit and emotional. I had to take back the control given to Doctor’s who barely knew me, turn to my Great Physician and Healer (God) and I let Him guide my research and body in finding what was best for me. Through this experience I have gained significant amounts of information on alternative healing and have helped many on their journey to recovery.

What Is the Function of the Liver

I recently was asked, “what is the most natural way to cleanse a liver with foods?” I knew several tips, but when I am asked questions, I research the question no matter how much I think I know. I was amazed with what I found on livers and their function. I came across a website (Huffington Post) that gave me the “a-ha” moment of a lifetime when I realized most of my symptoms could have stemmed from just my bad liver alone; low immune system, headaches, chronic fatigue, obesity and much more. These symptoms plagued me for years and it was always attributed to one illness or another, not to the fact that the pharmaceuticals were destroying my liver. I am grateful I was lead to change my diet and lifestyle, regardless of my Doctors opinions. I am alive today because of this decision.

What Can Help Cleanse Your Liver Naturally?

First things first, if you are taking any medication that can have adverse effects on your liver, go to your physician immediately and request a change in medication, then research their new recommendation. Never take anyone’s “word” when it comes to your life. Next, cut down on your proteins, cut out all refined sugars, drink lots of water and eat fruits and vegetables that cleanse the liver naturally; grapefruits, beets, avocados, leafy greens, lemons and many others listed on the link above.

Farm Bill Brings CBD-rich Natural Medicine

First U.S. President, Hemp Farmer

George Washington, our first President and a hemp farmer, once said, “make the most of the Indian hemp seed and sow it everywhere.” Hemp is a non-psychoactive plant that has been used for many products, including hemp paper which the Constitution was written on. Why use hemp? Hemp is stronger, lasts longer and will not kill forests in the name of disposable products.

Hemp Uses
Many Uses of Hemp

Hemp vs. Marijuana

People commonly mistake Hemp for Marijuana. Let me set the record straight, Hemp is the male species of the cannabis plant. It is best described in an answer that I found at the following website: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061123061618AAf5EGH.

An answer was posted stating:

“Hemp is cannabis grown specifically for industrial use and thus contains very low levels of cannabinoids (THC). The use of hemp dates back many thousands of years. Properly grown hemp has virtually no psychoactive (intoxicating) effects when consumed. With a relatively short growth cycle of 120 days, hemp is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow.
The THC levels in industrial hemp are so low that no one could get high from smoking it. Moreover, hemp contains a relatively high percentage of another cannabinoid, CBD, that actually blocks the marijuana high. Hemp, it turns out, is not only not marijuana; it could be called “antimarijuana.” “

How Is CBD-Rich Hemp Medicine?

In 1997, California passed Proposition 215, The Compassionate Care Act, wherein it became the first State to recognize marijuana for it’s medicinal properties. Since 1997, research across the world has been conducted on the medical benefits and possible side effects of the cannabis plant. What they found is beyond what anyone could have imagined. Project CBD, a panel of Doctor’s who have devoted their studies to finding the possible benefits and side effects of marijuana in several terminal and chronic disorders stated the following and is found on their website (http://www.projectcbd.org/about/introducing-cbd/):

Scientific and clinical studies underscore CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. CBD has demonstrated neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and elsewhere.

As stated in the prior paragraphs, Hemp is rich in CBD. The Hemp plant does not have the psychoactive properties of the female cannabis plant, commonly referred to as marijuana. In fact, on February 27, 2014, President Barrack Obama signed a farm bill that will allow certain States to grow Hemp, under the direction of the U.S. government. This is a major step in taking the necessary steps to correct the ignorance of the past and possibly reclassify cannabis, thereby allowing it to be researched for its medicinal properties.

Is CBD Right For Me?

I encourage you to not only research the above data online, but there are several YouTube testimonials (http://youtu.be/7xPmR8j4plw, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tqg2y3yYR0, and several hundreds more) available proving the miraculous effects of CBD for those that truly need this plant to survive and even possibly thrive.

A Fresh Peception of Desert Hot Springs

I believe in leading a balanced lifestyle in all parts of my life; body, mind and spirit. I have started a new weekly course at Desert Christian Center called “Seek God For the City,” which gives you an app or booklet to read daily prayers for 40 days (finishing on Palm Sunday). I have never loved living somewhere so much as I love living in Desert Hot Springs. The local government and news would have you believe that this is the worst City to live, but read on and understand why it is the BEST!

Dual Aquifers
Desert Hot Springs                Water Tables

Desert Hot Springs is one of two places in the whole world that has dual aquifers. Meaning, we have both hot and cold water that comes up from the earth and contains minerals like NO WHERE else in the world. The waters are truly “healing” waters. I have been diagnosed with several debilitating disorders and yet I have not stopped moving. On the days that I “disappear,” I am soaking away the pain that has become unbearable. It keeps me going for another day, sometimes week, but I always know when I soak in the water I will feel much better. There are groups of people that come from all over the world to soak in the water of Desert Hot Springs. There are many hotel’s from other areas in the Coachella Valley that state they have Natural Mineral water, but Desert Hot Springs is the only City with the “healing waters.”

Desert Hot Springs Beauty
Desert Hot Springs

The second reason I love Desert Hot Springs, the views from our City are amazing. We get to watch the “Angel” on the mountain every night at sunset. San Gorgonio Mountain is the first view outside every morning and San Jacinto Mountain is my second view. Awesome is hardly an accurate description.

Beautiful San Jacinto Mountain

      Desert Hot Springs

The third reason that I love Desert Hot Springs is that it is one of the last small towns in America. If you live here long enough, you know most of the people in town. The compassion, phileo-love and grace abounding is what keeps me from moving to another town. We are a town that has been quietly established with several recovery centers,  our community thrives on second chances, lives being saved and lives needing to be saved. It’s my belief that this has brought a spiritual strength to our community. We have all been in need at one time or another, so we can empathize with our neighbor, our community and we help serve those that haven’t found balance or peace. I believe more prayers go out of Desert Hot Springs and for us than any other town in the Coachella Valley. I have never prayed for a community as I have Desert Hot Springs and I know many other people who feel the same way.

Service With A Smile

There are many other great things I can list, but I will leave it to you to come and see for yourself. I would love for you to comment below on what you like about Desert Hot Springs, positive comments only, please.

The Many Faces of Bipolar Disorder

Image

There are many faces of bipolar disorder, once referred to as “manic depression.” If you Google images of bipolar disorder you see that bipolar disorder does not discriminate; old, young, rich, poor, beautiful, etc.

There are many questions that remain unanswered about the not so new, but newly researched disorder. There are also many unanswered questions on how to treat bipolar disorder, as each case is never the same. The fact is, there are many symptoms and some people might display one while others will display all of them, some respond to the first treatment offered while others take years. The following website can offer a list of symptoms and treatments for bipolar disorder: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/37010.php.

The question remains, what can be done to treat bipolar disorder holistically and what are some home remedies? Before posting a website for home remedies, I advise that you first research and gain as much knowledge as you can about bipolar disorder and identify the symptoms you are experiencing. Research and list home remedies (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/37010.php) that you would be interested in trying and why you feel they would best balance your mental health. Next, take your questions, research and suggestions to your physician; I take them to both my Doctor and the One Great Physician, my Creator. Then create a mental health plan that brings mental balance and well-being in your life and apply the plan to your daily life..

Gardening At It’s Best

I LOVE my mornings in the garden, this is my way of meditation. There is nothing better than having my time with God’s most elegant yet simple gift, nature. I have attached a link to help you get started on your own garden. Remember, anyone CAN garden; I live in the Desert and was once thwarted from gardening because I was considered the world’s best “brown thumb.” Another great resource is your local florist, I have DHS Florist & Nursery and John is an expert.
